Jackie Michael Phillips

Jackie Michael Phillips of Bay Springs, Mississippi was called to his heavenly home on Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born in Bay Springs to Ozell and Florence Upton Phillips.

A funeral service will be at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Salem Baptist Church, 723 County Road 17 Bay Springs. Brother Noah Clark will officiate.

Jackie attended Salem Baptist Church of Bay Springs where he cherished the congregation. Jackie served his country in the United States Air Force. While serving his country he met the love of his life Connie Bennett while stationed at Craig Air Force Base in Selma, Ala. When Jackie married Connie, he inherited 15 brothers and sisters-in-law in which he deeply enjoyed fellowshipping with when in Selma. Following his military service, he began a career in highway and bridge construction throughout Mississippi. He enjoyed reading, fishing, grilling, studying scripture, college football and saw-milling with his brother and nephew. He was most content when he was spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ozell and Florence Phillips.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years Connie Jane Bennett Phillips; son Chris Phillips (Kim) of Decatur; daughter Shannon Breland of Laurel; six grandchildren, Mackenzie Phillips, Caroline Phillips, Andrew Phillips and Ella Phillips of Decatur, and Zach English (Brianna) and Lexie Reid (Nash) of Laurel; three great-grandchildren, Jasiah, Tyler and Oakleigh; brothers Bobby Phillips (Paula) of Bay Springs and Stanley Phillips (Cathy) of Stringer; sisters Beverly Purvis (James) and Cindy Powell, all of Pelahatchie; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

 

Pallbearers will be Jesse Boydstun, Zachary English, David Harrison, Jimmy Hinton, Cooper McNeil, Andrew Phillips, Nash Reid and Tim Upton. Honorary pallbearers are Dan Brady, Sidney Knotts, Jerry Moore, Chad Odom, Jim Sims, Bruce Sloan and Judson Wilson

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children.
